Keller Williams - Val Air Ballroom (July 28)

This Keller show was announced months ago, yet with all of the fun of the Northwest String Summit, this show crept up on us really fast.  Thank goodness it was a hometown show, because we just didn't have the energy to go out of town quite yet.  It was originally supposed to be at Simon Estes, but because of the chance of thunderstorms, the show was moved to the Val Air Ballroom.  That was a bit disappointing, but oh well, we still got to see Keller.

I wasn't up for waiting in line to be up front, so I figured I wouldn't worry about it.  But, when we got inside, I saw that there was NO ONE on the rail.  The opening band was playing, and nobody seemed really interested.  When Kinetix was finally finished a handful of us just walked up to the rail and found our spots.  It was really weird.  Another thing that was really weird was not having our crew with us at a show.

Finally, the house music stopped, and we could all hear Keller's guitar as he slowly made his way to the front of the stage.  He opened with "Rockumal", then stepped up to the mic for "Apparition".  Unfortunately, I didn't keep track of the set list, so I don't quite remember everything he played.  But I do remember "Alligator Alley", "Fuel for the Road" (with my favorite little bass loop), "Bob Rules", "Moving Sidewalk", "Stinky Green", "Novelty Song", and of course "Freeker by the Speaker".  This show really took me back to those heady Keller days of '03.  But seriously, it was such a nostalgic feeling seeing a solo Keller show without all of the extra guitars and props.  He only played one set, which was different, but it was a really great time, and I can't wait to see him again.

Project 365 - Week 83

Northwest String Summit!!!  WooHoo!!!  We are so lucky to do so many fun things and travel to so many fun places, but String Summit is really the best.  We got to spend time with a lot of really good friends, and some of them finally got to meed for the first time.  The only thing that sucked about this trip was that it didn't last longer.

Project 365 - Week 82

This week we saw the midnight showing of the final Harry Potter.  I can't believe it's the end!  Jenni and Tsubasa were here for some wedding planning, and I got to visit with them a little.  The next couple days I spent recovering from a root canal before we got the hell outta the midwest and flew to Oregon.  We spent some time with Emily's family in Portland, then spent some time with our Kinfolk family on the coast.

Project 365 - Week 81

Oh, how I love northern Wisconsin!  Bayfield is so beautiful, and I wish we could have stayed longer, but it was about 8 to get hours home.  The next day was Yonder in Des Moines... and it was awesome!!!  Then, Junk and Annie stayed a couple extra days, which was also awesome.  Monday I went to the shelter and met a few new cats, including Sarabi - one of the most beautiful cats I've ever seen.  She won't be there long.

Project 365 - Week 80

This week we had a miserable heat wave pass through Iowa... but we also had Max pass through with The Henhouse Prowlers, so that was cool.  Colin and I did some street teaming for the Yonder show in Des Moines.  Emily and I had a craft night, then Colin and I went to Jordan and Emily's for some 4th of July feasting on corn and meat.  The next day I spent getting ready for our trip to northern Wisconsin, where we saw Yonder!!!
